Jim Keegan has been a Solicitor since 1975 and a Solicitor Advocate since 1994. A graduate of the Universities of Strathclyde (LLB) and Glasgow (DFM; M.Phil.), Jim was a member of the Council of the Law Society of Scotland for 14 years and as such chaired a number of committees including the Human Rights Committee and the Judicial Procedure Committee. He was elected a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbiters (FCIArb) in 1993 and a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Arts etc. (FRSA) in 2000.

He was also a member of the Criminal Rules Council from 1995 till 2012. He has been a Solicitor Advocate since 1994 and took silk in 2009. He possesses a wealth of experience in many areas of legal practice but now tends to concentrate on Criminal Law (including Health and Safety law), professional misconduct and negligence and professional discipline tribunal matters.

He has appeared in many reported high profile cases in the course of his legal career. He was appointed Advocate Depute ad hoc in 2013.
